Preparations and Inspection
Floor Inspection
- Ensure that the place where the carpet is installed is on even ground.
- Fill up cracks and remove any foreign substances on the floor before installation, such as oily substances,
oil, paint or wax.
- Measure the area of an installation site through considering walls and other possible losses.
Preparations for Installation
- For products delivered to the site, divide them by lot number and color, allocate an adequate quantity to
each area of the site and check quantity.
- Check installation tools, including tape measures, adhesives, cutters, scrapers, chalks, inking lines and
right-angle iron rulers.
- Assign workers according to the area of the site, due date and installation conditions.
Installation Conditions
- Keep the carpet at room temperature (10℃ or above) from at least 24 hours prior to the installation, and
maintain room temperature conditions during installation.
- Prepare lighting fixtures suitable to the supervision of installation.
- Make sure the product and adhesives are sufficiently adjusted to the conditions of the site by storing
them on site for at least one day prior to installation.
- For concrete floors, select adhesives of pH 5-9, and maintain a sufficient curing period of 90-120 days in
order to resolve the problem of adhesive strength caused by concrete floor’s alkali elements.
- If there are heating pipes in the floor, reduce the heating temperature to prevent rapid adhesion, and be
cautious about possible pipe ruptures, especially during stretch-in work.
Installation Method
Roll Carpet Installation
1) Installation of Cushioning Material
- Do not position the joints of the cushioning material and the carpet in parallel. Instead, make
a right angle.
- Install a cushioning material for as long as possible, otherwise the moved cushioning material
will cause unevenness and creases in the carpet after a certain period of time.
- Put smooth edges at the side of walls with nail heads facing up. Fix the smooth edges on the
floor with consideration given to how the carpet is to be used.
2) Application of Adhesive
- Apply adhesive using a standard scraper for roll carpet or an exclusive towel.
- The amount of application should vary from 130 to 150g/m2 depending on the floor conditions.
- Wait for 10-15 minutes until the adhesive slightly hardens before starting installation.
3) Carpet Installation
- Stretch the carpet in each direction and hang it on the smooth edge stably.
- Use a power stretch or kicker when stretching the carpet. Especially for jute pack tufted
carpets, you should stretch it thoroughly in each direction. Stretch it lengthwise and widt-
hwise by approximately 1-1.5%.
- Bond the joints of the carpet completely with a hot melt tape
4) Other Finishing Work
- Minimize the joint area, and if the installation area is a high-traffic area, install the carpet in a
lengthwise direction.
- Avoid the joint area of the carpet near the entrance of the site, and ensure the joint area is
not exposed to direct sunlight.
- Piles between the widths should be installed in the same direction. Direct piles toward the
entrance of the site, and the patterns and economical elements should be considered as well.
Tile Carpet Installation
1) Drawing Center Line
- Minimize the number of carpet tiles to install, and divide the
floor into squares to ensure that the squares at the side of the
site are at least a half of the size of a tile.
- Mark the center line with an inking line or chalk.
- The intersection of the center lines should make a right angle.
2) Application of Adhesive
- Decide the order of installation among the four areas divided
by the center line, and apply adhesive to one of the divided areas,
considering the speed of work.
- Use a standard scraper for carpet tile to apply adhesive (amount of
application: 130-150g/m2).
- From the open time when adhesive becomes transparent,
3) Product Installation
- Once the adhesive becomes transparent, check the arrow direction in the back of the product
and start installation in a pyramidal method from the start point.
- As the center line is the base of the entire installation, check the state of the parallel and right
angle when installing the product.
4) Cutting at Wall (Finish Cutting)
- Cut the carpet up to 1mm off the wall so that the carpet can
be placed naturally at the wall, and press it sufficiently for
solid adhesion.
- Check the direction of installation and do the cutting from the
back of the product.
Things to Check after Installation
- The installation manager should conduct an inspection with the supervisor and superintendent as soon
as possible once installation is complete, and detect and fix problems, if any.
- Carefully check the direction of piles, joints, contamination, loose or omitted piles, levelness, and color
difference.
- If you need to move heavy things on the carpet within 24 hours from installation, protect the carpet by
covering it with protective material.
- Cover the carpet with protective material to prevent it from becoming contaminated due to wall and
ceiling works after installation.
